Metal music has often been condemned and shunned for its demonic images. As for me, its a musically influenced movement in which people who do not belong find an obsession in. I have been questioned about my brutal taste for music or even anti mainstream. I just find liking to explore what is not liked by the majority, and am relieved to discover this passion puts me in a bigger picture of an ignored dark world. For people who have no clue about the genre "Metal", I have got some recommendations and must-watches that will help you better understand the roots and how this whole thing came about, also the sub genres which branched out from its foundation. Enjoy!
Heavy: The Story of Metal
Published by VH1, a 4-episode documentary exploring Heavy Metal and its roots. Tracing back to the 60's and how this genre is developed through decades."In a series of four chronological hours, Heavy: The Story of Metal, explores four decades of music, each hour examining this powerful and often misunderstood genre, from metal's pioneers to its love of glam and excess; from the fight for metal's rebellious soul to its storied flirtation with the devil." - VH1
Metal: A Headbanger's Journey (2005)
Directed and personally hosted by Sam Dunn himself, a 30-year old anthropologist whom looked into a music world he found passion since early youth."The film discusses the traits and originators of some of metal's many subgenres, including the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, power metal, glam metal, thrash metal, black metal and death metal. Dunn uses a family-tree-type flowchart to document some of the most popular metal sub genres." - Wikipedia

Global Metal (2008)
Following the success of Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, Samm Dunn continued to explore deeper into Metal and came to his surprise to realize how the outside worlds of United Kingdom and America have put their own cultural uniqueness to the music. Hence, the sequel - Global Metal."Directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn set out to discover how the West's most maligned musical genre - heavy metal - has impacted the world's cultures beyond Europe and North America. The film follows metal fan and anthropologist Sam Dunn on a whirlwind journey through Asia, South America and the Middle East as he explores the underbelly of the world's emerging extreme music scenes; from Indonesian death metal to Chinese black metal to Iranian thrash metal. GLOBAL METAL reveals a worldwide community of metalheads who aren't just absorbing metal from the West - they're transforming it - creating a new form of cultural expression in societies dominated by conflict, corruption and mass-consumerism." - IMDB
